    The King The King Headphone It began when the Audeze team met the legendary electronics designer Bascom King in his design lab. Bascom has designed acclaimed amplifiers for Infinity, Marantz, Constellation Audio, PS Audio and others. He demoed a prototype headphone amplifier that so impressed everyone that they signed Bascom on the spot to develop the new headphone amplifier exclusively for Audeze. The King’s circuitry is very different from the typical complementary output topology; it uses the same polarity N-channel MOSFET outputs as these are more alike and complementary than N- and P-channel MOSFETs. Just before the output stage is a two-stage differential amplifier using a dual-triode tube for the input stage followed by a P-channel MOSFET differential driver stage. The driver stage supplies complementary drive to the N-channel output devices. Overall negative feedback is taken back to the input stage to include the input triode in the feedback loop. The circuit is DC-coupled from input to output and a servo control circuit keeps the output DC offset to within millivolts of zero. The overall symmetry of the circuitry eliminates most even-order harmonic distortion.     CAV45-S2 Stereo Control Amplifier The control amplifier represents a distinctly different approach to high-performance home audio. In many ways it is the ultimate embodiment of our design philosophy that simple circuits yield best results. Similar in function to an integrated amplifier, a control amplifier offers the significant potential improvement of eliminating extra connections, external cabling, and inter-device connection considerations that limit conventional audio systems. But the control amplifier also eliminates an entire stage of audio circuitry (the line stage) and its inherent colorations. The CAV45-S2 is a vacuum-tube control amplifier. Its audio circuit is similar to our highly regarded Classic Sixty power amplifier, with triode voltage gain and phase inverter stages and an output stage comprised of a pair of EL34s per channel operated in ultralinear mode to produce 45 watts per channel. The use of carefully selected, high-quality parts enables the CAV45-S2 to properly exploit the dramatic potential of a control amplifier to enhance the immediacy of musical experience afforded by fine recordings. All resistors in the audio circuits and related power supplies are precision metal film types. With the exception of the large power supply reservoir capacitors (which are specially chosen electrolytic capacitors bypassed by polypropylenes), all capacitors in these circuits use polystyrene and polypropylene dielectrics.     TEA1 Series 3 Phono Preamplifier The TEA1 Series 3 triode equalization amplifier is a stand-alone vacuum-tube phono stage designed to satisfy the expectations of the most demanding music lovers. The TEA1s3 features a zero loop feedback circuit with passive RIAA equalization. It offers two phono inputs, one with switch selectable resistive and capacitive loading allowing the user to fine-tune performance to the chosen phono cartridge. The other input is fitted with premium wide-bandwidth audio transformers installed on the PHONO 1 input to provide the higher gain and very low noise required by low output moving coil cartridges. Designed to precisely track the prescribed RIAA equalization curve, the TEA-1s3 assures absolute tonal accuracy. The low-gain audio circuit of the TEA-1s3 is comprised of two cascaded single-ended triode amplifiers. The circuit is a zero-feedback design, to eliminate the temporal inaccuracies that negative feedback introduces. RIAA equalization is established by a passive network between the two gain stages. Careful implementation of this fundamentally simple circuit results in extremely wide bandwidth and low distortion, without resorting to negative feedback. The ideal dc power supply circuit is simply a zero impedance path to ground. Any deviation from this ideal is fully reflected in the audio circuits. Thus the power supplies are as important to audio performance as the audio circuits and must be accorded equal attention in design. In the TEA-1s3, each stage has its own discrete regulated DC power supply. These power supplies have been carefully designed for minimum impedance, even at the highest audio frequencies, to prevent the power supplies from degrading music reproduction. The TEA1s3 is optionally available as the TEA1s3b with the step-up transformers deleted. This version of the TEA1s3 has two direct inputs, one with variable loading and one with fixed loading. The full potential of any circuit design can only be realized if executed with the highest quality parts. The audio circuits of the TEA-1s3 use only conrad-johnson’s proprietary Teflon capacitors. In the power supplies, all capacitors are polypropylene or Teflon – there are no electrolytic capacitors anywhere in the audio circuits or their dc power supplies. The audio circuits and related power supplies both use high-precision laser trimmed metal-foil resistors, designed for ultra-low inductance. In the process of the design the project was dropped in mid-production due to excessive demand by HR-X customers which left the design and proto-type chassis to be mothballed.
